As an excellent scenario for 2×4 lovers, the 29th edition of the “Valparatango” festival will be held this summer in Valparaíso, thanks to the contribution provided, for the fifth consecutive year, by Alianza Puerto Ciudad, consisting of Terminal Cerros de Valparaíso (TCVAL), Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso (EPV) and the Municipality of Valparaíso.
The much-anticipated tango festival will be held between 3 and 11 February, cost-free, on various stages and public areas in the town. This year, stages will be set up in Plaza Cívica, Plaza La Conquista and Plaza Waddington, and classes taught by specialized instructors. Furthermore, singing and dancing recitals will be held in the Municipal Theater, round tables and night “milongas” in the Town Hall.
Starting on Saturday, 3 February, the port will be imbued with the town’s tango atmosphere, freely open to all interested parties and tango lovers. This time, groups will travel to Valparaíso from Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Tucumán and Santiago, and local groups will exhibit Valparaíso’s local tango.
Dancing and singing competitions will be held in Plaza Cívica on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th February, starting at 7:00 p.m., and at the Municipal Theater on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th February, starting at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, 10 February, between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m., the round table entitled “Living and reliving tango: prospects for tango in the region”, will be held in the events room of the Town Hall.
The Final “Milonga” will also be held in Plaza Cívica on Saturday, 10 February, between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., with music played by the famous Orquesta Misteriosa Buenos Aires, and musicalization provided by Julio Rojas.
The event will bring international organizations together, such as Cuarteto Mulenga, Bailarines de Tucumán, national banks, Octeto Tango Puerto, Malajuntango, Esamble Oblivión and Quinteto del Revés. To include the local dancers Hector and Kary, winners in the Tango category of Valparatango 2017, who have represented us over the year in various international festivals.
Festival 2x Cuore, Junin Argentina and Tango Fest Puerto Rico will also be present. Of interest is that Valparaíso’s traditional tango will be exhibited, with various DJs, in the areas used for “milongas” and Valparatango’s activities, such as Anichi, Mijlenko (local) Julio Rojas (Santiago), Sergio Maquicheo (Comodoro Rivadavia, Provincia del Chubut, Argentina).
